DOMAINE D'ASTROS
“There have always been grapevines and Astros cellars…”
From the 12th century, the history of Domaine d’Astros has seen a succession of Knights Templar, Malta Knights and a prosperous Marseilles family.
The Maurel family has owned the Château d'Astros since 1802. Seven generations of vine growers follow one another. The eighth and ninth generations are currently present to perpetuate traditions.
Hidden amongst the pines, nestling in a small valley on the property, Château d'Astros is a monument of the medieval era. At Domaine d’Astros a passionate team of oenologists use modern tools to capture the best of the vine, but always with an nod to tradition. The fruit of the estate’s oldest vines, develops into powerful and wonderfully complex aromas, creating a vibrant and fresh provincial rosé.
The wine-making team is made up of competent people led by Laure Ambroise-Habasque, a reputed agronomist and oenologist. This “aroma sensor” is adept at traditional low-temperature vinification.
"At each stage of production, I seek out all the aromas a wine could reveal. It is then up to us to give it the possibility of expressing them during tasting."
Bruno Maurel, an ordained Priest, now heads up the family business. He believes that this very special business allows him to gain a better grasp of human, social and economic issues.
"It opens my eyes to the realities of life. To give of yourself, you must have your feet planted firmly on solid ground."
And the ground is here, in Astros.
